I'm installing a dust collector and thought you folks might like to see how I'm approaching collection at some of my machinery.

First is the miter saw. The hood can slide right and left far enough to keep in a useful position cutting 45's.














Then, probably doesn't qualify as a common lutherie tool, the lathe. I just attached a shelf on the back of the stand, mounted the hood on a piece of wood and can position it anywhere along the shelf and clamp in position.








And I replaced the 2 1/2" port on my thickness sander with a 4" port.




I'll be coming off the collector with 6" hose and going to all the machines with 4". Thanks for looking, I'll show the whole system when I'm up and running.

Suck is right! I've got a Penn State single stage with a 1 micron canister. 2 Hp, 220v, 12" impeller. Supposedly pulls 1500 cfm. I had to run a 220v circuit to it and I want to thank Bruce for talking me through it. I'm going to try the trash can thing to make it a two stage collector at a couple of different points. Pics when it is all finished. Maybe tomorrow.

I need to sort a hood for the pin router and get some hand tool adaptors for using at the bench.

Hi, Serge. Those hoods came from woodworker's supply, I think. Most of the woodworking supply houses have them. These are the largest I could find, about 16" wide.

ron, you are certainly getting there. but considering how i am always tinkering with my arrangement i often wonder where there is.

what size duct do you have coming off the machine? if it is 6" try to take the 6 in to the machine and install a 6 in take off. on the thichness sander a wye and 2 x 4 in takeoffs a la performax will work better than the single 4 as well. the thicness sander will be your single bigest dust collection problem.

jam, you have done a beautifull job of dust control arrangemnet. i would suggest that you try to straighten the flex hoses as much as possible. the contortion on the bandsaw will reduce the collection efficiency as will the sharp bend on the edge sander.

Thanks Since the photos were taken 2 pieces of solid pipe have replaced the majority of the flex for the thickness sander and other adjustments made.
I'm currently trying to keep on of the massive amounts of waste that the pin router creates! I need to sort a big funnel like the one in the first post methinks.
